Man Opens Fire After Watching Eagles Game in Garage, Kills 1: Police

A shooting in Philadelphia following the Eagles' loss on "Sunday Night Football" left one man in his 50s dead and two other men in their 50s hospitalized early Monday.

Gunshots rang out just after midnight in a one-car garage along the 8300 block of Gilbert Street in the city’s Cedarbrook section following the Eagles' 40-17 loss to the Cardinals. The men had been watching the game together in a garage, according to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

"After the football game, at some time around midnight, for some reason, a 51-year-old man pulled out a gun and started firing shots at the three people he was with watching the football game that were sitting on the couch," said Small.

Authorities said a 51-year-old man who lived at the house was shot in the chest. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

They rushed another 51-year-old man to Einstein Medical Center with a graze wound to his head and gunshot wounds to his torso and leg. A 58-year-old was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police expected both to survive.

Small said the homicide victim’s 15-year-old nephew was home at the time but wasn’t injured.

One of the victims was able to identify the shooter and police later caught up with the suspect — a 51-year-old man — about five blocks away on Phil Ellena Street. The shooter told police he dumped the gun while fleeing from the scene.

Small said it wasn’t immediately clear why the gunman opened fire.
