Winds, Rain Ease as Tropical Storm Iselle Passes Hawaii

The first tropical storm to hit Hawaii in 22 years passed by the islands late Friday, as residents and tourists emerged to survey the damage as the wind and rain let up, the Associated Press reported. Hurricane Iselle hit the main island of Hawaii early Friday morning, bringing winds of 50 mph and a deluge of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service. Iselle had been downgraded from a hurricane on Thursday, but still caused structural damage, downed trees, power outages and some flooding. Iselle is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to the smaller islands of Hawaii later on Friday. Another hurricane, Category 3 Julio is close behind.
