A Carson man is facing 50 years to life in state prison for murdering his wife of more than 40 years after she served him with divorce papers.
Benjamin Christino Ramirez, 69, was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder for the Oct. 5, 2018, killing of his 67-year-old spouse, Fely.
She had served her husband with divorce papers and remained at their home to talk, according to Deputy District Attorney Abigail Baron, who said Ramirez shot the woman in the head and chest and then left the home.
Her family discovered her body later that day.
Ramirez -- who was initially described as a "person of interest in the investigation" -- was arrested a day after his wife's killing, but released from jail several days later. He was re-arrested nearly two weeks later and has remained behind bars since then, according to jail records.
Ramirez is due back in court for sentencing on Oct. 1.
