Prosecutors Use Genealogical DNA to Charge Man With 1995 Rape of 9-Year-Old Girl

Investigators say they arrested Konther after using DNA techniques similar to those used to catch the suspected Golden State Killer.

Authorities have charged a Southern California man with sexually assaulting a woman and two girls, including a 9-year-old, after identifying him through genealogical DNA.

Orange County prosecutors on Monday charged Kevin Konther of Highland with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in 1995 as she walked home at night in Lake Forest.

He's also charged with the 1998 rape of a woman jogger in the same city. Both victims were dragged into bushes and attacked.

Konther's also charged with committing lewd acts against a 12-year-old acquaintance in 2002 and 2003.

He could face a potential life sentence if convicted. He remains jailed and it's unclear whether he has an attorney.
