A West Covina man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering his wife's parents, who had traveled from China to visit their daughter and grandchildren.
A jury in Pomona deliberated about three hours on Oct. 1 before finding Caminero Wang, now 46, guilty of first-degree murder for the Apr. 13, 2016, shootings of Aiping Diao and Shu Zhang, who were both 60 years old.
The panel also found true the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders.
Officers went to the family's condominium in the 1300 block of East Oahu Avenue about 8:30 p.m. on Apr. 13, 2016, on a report of several gunshots and "the sounds of children screaming," police said.
Wang opened the door to police and surrendered without incident. Police found the victims dead of gunshot wounds and three youngsters -- ages 3, 6 and 8 -- hiding in a bathroom.
Authorities said Wang's wife was at work at the time of the attack.
Wang had been arrested in March 2013 on suspicion of domestic violence, and El Monte police found 23 guns in a search of his home. The stash of weapons included a fully automatic M-16 rifle and a semi-automatic Chinese-made copy of an AK-47 rifle called a Mak-90.

He was sentenced to three years probation after pleading no contest to possessing an assault weapon and successfully petitioned the court for early termination of his probation in 2014, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
