Marisa Tomei Career Resurrection Imperiled By Sarah Jessica Parker

Marisa Tomei, who's been on a torrid streak of late, has put her recent ascension in jeopardy by signing on to co-star with box office poison Sarah Jessica Parker in a new indie comedy.

Tomei and SJP are in talks to appear in "Married and Cheating," reported Variety. Set in New York and Paris, the film will follow the travails of three married couples fighting to get it together.

The film is being written and directed by Raymond De Felitta, whose "City Island" was a surprisingly funny family dramedy starring Andy Garcia as the patriarch.

Tomei came out of nowhere in 1992 to win an Oscar for her turn in "My Cousin Vinny," and went on to enjoy steady, if unremarkable employment for the next several years. But since 2007, she's given some great performances in some very good films, including "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," "The Wrestler" and "Cyrus."

And in 2011 she'll be seen in "The Lincoln Lawyer," "Salvation Boulevard," "Crazy Stupid, Love" and "The Ides of March." So why on Earth would she saddle up alongside SJP, who hasn't had a film top 55% on Rotten Tomatoes in over a decade? And whose last two non-"Sex and the City" films combined to make $39 million?
