“Arrested Development” Gets Green Light, Finally

Creator Mitch Hurwitz said 9 or 10 episodes will be made, leading up to a feature-length film.

“Arrested Development” is no longer in a stage of, well, arrested development.

After years of buzz and hearsay, creator Mitch Hurwitz again teased of a possible mini-season of 9-10 episodes, leading up to a feature length movie at this past weekend’s New Yorker Festival.

It was Jason Bateman who confirmed what fans have hoped for more than a date with Steve Holt. “It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie,” Bateman confirmed on Twitter. “Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13.”

Will Arnett, who played Gob Bluth, added: “…we can confirm that we are going to make the new AD eps and a movie.”

As the Hollywood Reporter notes, the all-star cast—including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Portia di Rossi, and Jeffery Tambor—all have busy schedules and numerous obligations in upcoming film projects and television shows (unlike the lackluster family they portrayed).

Hurwitz hinted at the New Yorker Festival, the each episode of the miniseries will most likely cover one character. “We’re basically hoping to do nine or 10 episodes, with almost one character per episode,” he said.

Hurwitz also added he had written a good chunk of the “Arrested Development” movie.

Not to be outdone, at the end of the New Yorker "Arrested Development" panel, Will Arnett led the entire cast of the show in a giant chicken dance of happiness and solidarity. We can only hope the celebration ended with a few rounds of candy beans and Bluth frozen bananas.
