Michael Brown's Family Accuse Police of “Character Assassination”

Michael Brown's cousin and attorneys said Friday that police have created a "sideshow" and attempted a "character assassination" of Brown after surveillance video was released that allegedly shows the 18-year-old involved in a "strong-arm robbery" at a store minutes before he was fatally shot by a police officer, NBC News reported. The release of the video came as police announced the name of the officer who fatally shot Brown — a decision Brown's family said was engineered to distract from the fact that their son was unarmed and surrendering when killed. Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said they released the video when they did to satisfy the news media’s repeated requests for information.
