Demi Lovato Details Why She Cut Herself

Demi Lovato stunned her fans when she opened up about her battle with an eating disorder, and now Lovato is opening up about why she inflicted self-harm to deal with body issues, People reported.

In the August edition of "Self Magazine," the former Disney star discussed how cutting herself helped take her mind off emotional and physical issues.

“There were times I felt so anxious, almost like I was crawling out of my skin – that if I didn’t do something physical to match the way I felt inside, I would explode,” the 19-year-old told the magazine. I cut myself to take my mind off that. I just didn’t care what happened. I had no fear."

In 2010 while on tour with the Jonas Brothers, the "X Factor" judge had a high profile meltdown in which she punched back-up dancer Alex Welch. Lovato dropped out of the tour and took her health into her own hands by checking into a treatment center for “emotional and physical issues.

Now, Lovato has incorporated changes into her lifestyle to help her stay balanced, from meditating to limiting her cell phone use.

"I make time for myself and meditate," she says. "I've spent the past two years getting over an eating disorder and issues like self-harming and bipolar disorder. I have to work on this stuff every day.
