Julia Louis-Dreyfus to Play VP in New HBO Series

Elaine is back!

That is, if Elaine worked in politics and not publishing. Funny front woman and Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus will star in a new HBO political comedy, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Louis-Dreyfus, of “Seinfeld,” and more recently, “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” will play a former senator who becomes Vice President, but finds out the job description is a bit different than what she thought.

The comedy, called “Veep,” will star “Arrested Development’s” Tony Hale as her aid, and Sufe Bradshaw (“Overnight”) as the veep’s assistant.

“I take the role of vice president very seriously,” Louis-Dreyfus said in a statement. “and although everyone says it’s a comedy, I don’t think there is anything funny at all about me being a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
