2011— While he was filming the Oscar-winning "Silver Linings Playbook," Bradley Cooper was named 2011's Sexiest Man Alive.
2010— Ryan Reynolds started filming "The Green Lantern" in 2010. The same year he was named the Sexiest Man Alive. Reynolds married actress Blake Lively in 2012.

1995—"People" did not do a Sexiest Man Alive feature in 1994. In 1995, Brad Pitt was given the title. In the accompanying article, the actor was praised for his work in 94's "Interview with a Vampire."
1993— Two decades ago People took a different approach to the Sexiest title. Instead of a Sexiest Man Alive, Richard Gere and wife Cindy Crawford were named the Sexiest Couple Alive. The two would divorce in 1995.
1992—Nick Nolte was 51 when he was named the Sexiest Man Alive. That year he won the Best Actor Golden Globe for his work in "Affliction."

1991— Patrick Swayze's 1991 People article discussed how the actor did not want to be typecast as a "romantic leading man." Even so, the actor's most successful roles include "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost." After a prolonged illness, Swayze passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2009.
1990— At the time he was awarded the title, People praised Tom Cruise for his roles playing "red-blooded, all-American youths."

1989— Former James Bond, Sean Connery, was named Sexiest at age 59. In 1989 Connery took on the role of Indy's dad in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."
1988— People named John F. Kennedy Jr. not only the Sexiest Man Alive, but the Sexiest Kennedy. He was the first non-actor chosen for the title.
1987— The third titleholder was Harry Hamlin. At the time he was playing a lawyer on the hit show, "L.A. Law."
