Pope Francis to Koreas: Avoid “Fruitless” Shows of Force

Pope Francis urged North and South Korea to renew efforts to forge peace and to avoid "fruitless" shows of force, The Associated Press reported. In the first speech of his first trip to Asia, Francis added that "Korea's quest for peace is a cause close to our hearts, for it affects the stability of the entire area and indeed of our whole war-weary world." As he opened a five-day visit to South Korea with a message of reconciliation, North Korea fired five projectiles into the sea, though it wasn't immediately clear what the projectiles were.
