Perry Defends Teaching Creationism

GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry defended teaching creationism in Texas schools when a mother told her son to ask the Texas governor "why he doesn't believe in science" at a New Hampshire campaign stop. "Evolution is a theory that's out there," Perry said, kneeling to 9-year-old Sam Bunce's level, The New York Times reports. "It's got some gaps in it, but in Texas we teach both creationism and evolution... because I figured you're smart enough to figure out which one is right." Perry, who has faced criticism for his scientific views before, also responded to a local teacher who questioned his skepticism of global warming. "We teach the straight out facts in Texas in our schools," he said.
