NJ Police Charge Woman in String of Lingerie Thefts

Police in New Jersey busted a woman they say is a serial lingerie thief who shoplifted an estimated $24,000 worth of items at the state's largest mall.

Cynthia Roman, 39, of Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, struck the same Victoria's Secret store in the Garden State Plaza on at least nine different occasions since August, investigators said Friday.

She was able to remove pricey bras and other lingerie from displays and cabinets each time without getting caught, though her thefts were captured by surveillance cameras, they said.

When she entered the store Wednesday, sales staff recognized her from surveillance video of her previous visits and called Paramus police.

Investigators said they believe Roman was selling the stolen items.

She was charged with nine counts of theft and remanded to Bergen County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail, police said.

There was no indication that Roman had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
