Firefighters called to put out a fire aboard a 35-foot cabin cruiser at Terminal Island Monday morning found a woman dead inside, authorities said.
Firefighters were called at 4:05 a.m. to Berth 258 at the Port of Los Angeles at Terminal Island, Los Angles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
The boat was well-involved in flames when firefighters arrived, Humphrey said. They put out the flames in 16 minutes, then discovered the person dead aboard the boat, which was still afloat, he said.
A spokesman at the scene of the fire later said the person was a woman.
No other injuries were reported and firefighters were conducting a detailed search of the boat, Humphrey said.
