Kings hire former Knicks exec Scott Perry as new general manager

Less than a week after mutually agreeing to part ways with general manager Monte McNair, the Kings have found his replacement.

Sacramento announced Monday it has hired longtime NBA executive Scott Perry as the organization's next GM. ESPN's Shams Charania was first to report the news Thursday.

“I appreciate the opportunity to rejoin the Kings organization and help build a successful team that competes at a high level,” Perry said in a statement. “I’m eager to get to work with the players and staff to continue moving the organization forward.”

Perry previously was the Kings' president of basketball operations for three months in 2017 before taking the New York Knicks GM job. Throughout his tenure with New York, the Knicks posted a 192-274 record across six seasons with two playoff appearances in 2021 and 2023 before the team parted ways with him after the 2022-23 NBA season.

Now he returns to Sacramento, where he inherits a team fresh off a disappointing 2024-25 season that ended in a 120-106 NBA play-in tournament loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center.

"Scott brings a wealth of experience, a sharp basketball mind, and a strong track record of building talented rosters,” Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé said in a statement. “He shares our commitment to developing and sustaining a winning culture, and I am excited to welcome him back to Sacramento.”
