Santa Ana Man Charged With Raping Unconscious Woman

A 23-year-old Santa Ana man is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges of raping a woman while she was unconscious and then trying to persuade her to get the case dropped.

Christian Aranda faces one felony count each of rape of an unconscious person and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime.

He was arrested Wednesday on a $100,000 warrant and is scheduled to be arraigned in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Aranda was an acquaintance of the woman and invited her over for a visit to his home about 1 a.m. on July 23, Bertagna said. He said the two had not dated and were not romantically involved.

She fell asleep and eventually woke up to Aranda sexually assaulting her, Bertagna alleged. She told him she did not consent to sex and left right away and reported the alleged rape to authorities, he said.

Aranda is accused of calling her multiple times and even going to her workplace to try to talk to her, and trying to pay her to drop charges, Bertagna said.
