Shannon, Chung Hop on Gordon-Levitt's Bike Messenger Thriller

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's upcoming film, "Premium Rush," is poised to add two crucial cast members, the villain and the ex-love interest.

"Premium Rush" stars Gordon-Levitt as a bike messenger who picks up a package at Columbia University and ends up getting chased across New York City by a dirty cop, to be played by Michael Shannon, desperate to get his hands on the package.

Shannon's character is described by The Hollywood Reporter as "deceptively affable cop with a violent temper," which is funny because that's exactly how I imagine Shannon is in real life.

And Jamie Chung ("Sorority Row") has been cast as Gordon-Levitt's ex, a fellow bike messenger who helps him outwit Shannon, according to the same report from THR.

But this seems to contradict Variety's report from two weeks ago that Dani Ramirez ("X-Men: The Last Stand") had been cast in the female lead. Could it be there are two female leads? Unlikely, but possible. It's strange that the THR report makes no mention at all of Ramirez.

The film is being written and directed by David Koepp, and is "a big-budget actioner... (with) the kind of elaborate chases associated with a William Friedkin pic," reported Variety last fall.

Though Koepp's last directorial effort was Ricky Gervais' "Ghost Town," he's no stranger to big-budget spectacles, having penned the last Indian Jones, "War of the Worlds," and "Spider-Man" among others.
