Shhh! Secret Gets $8.6 Million Investment

Investors gave $8.6 million to Secret, an anonymous sharing app that's cool with the Silicon Valley in-crowd, according to reports.

Numerous angel investors poured in their ducats, including Garry Tan and Alexis Ohanian of Initialized Capital, MG Siegler of Google Ventures, Bing Gordon and Megan Quinn of KPCB, Ashton Kutcher of A-Grade Investments, Pete Cashmore, Joe Montana and others, according to TechCrunch.

However, no one joined the board of directors.

Secret is only 45 days old, but seems to already be a Silicon Valley darling. Perhaps it has to do with user engagement (75 percent of those with five or more friends use it more than once a day).

Still, it has some pretty hefty competition, namely Whisper, the undisputed anonymous sharing app which has already raised $54 million.

But part of Secret's allure is that it seems to be the place for Silicon Valley tattle and gossip, which is why Silicon Valley is taking note and offering money.
