Sometimes referred to as "the fashion Oscars," the CFDA Awards offers up a red carpet that often yields some of the most memorable ensembles of the year. The night's biggest winners, Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen, who took home the award in womenswear for their sleek, ultra-tailored collections at The Row, looked extra chic for the occasions: Ashley chose a draped jewel-tone dress while Mary-Kate donned a slouchy black blouse and wrap-around satin skirt (both, naturally, from The Row).

The Olsen twins also dressed one of the coolest celebs in CFDA history: The ultimate in "understated chic," a glowy Lauren Hutton sported The Row's crisp cream silk blazer and matching trousers with a plain crewneck tee and white lace-up sneakers.

Michael Kors may not have been nominated this year, but it's been a big year for the designer (who took his label public back in December), and he hit the CFDA awards in appropriately larger-than-life style with model Joan Smalls sporting a white knit dress with a long, mermaid-like train and shimmery gold sandals.

Alexander Wang and Carine Roitfeld are a fashion match made in heaven, the former French Vogue editress' edgy style a natural compliment for Wang's long-sleeve wrap jersey dress with croc-stamped leather panels.

On the softer end of the spectrum, actress Gretchen Mol looked pretty as a picture in an ethereal pastel look with a flouncy mint skirt by Sophie Theallet. To give the look a modern edge, Mol paired it with a pair of cool, lace-up black sandals.

Jessica Pare ("Mad Men") looked thoroughly modern in a super-embellished magenta pencil skirt and matching black lace top from Jason Wu's fall 2012 collection. Her long, fringe earrings picked up the delicate, fringe-like detailing in the skirt.

There's nothing quite like a red head in emerald green, and Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez worked the look to a tee with supermodel Karen Elson, who they dressed in a two-piece green brocade ensemble with a cropped boustier top and A-line skirt.

Dakota Fanning also sported head-to-toe Proenza, opting instead for an exotic, silk-embroidered dress from the fall collection with a single bow closure on the bust.
