Two Racing Team Members Shocked at Irwindale Speedway

Two men who work on a car-racing crew suffered electric shocks Saturday at the Irwindale Speedway, authorities said.

The incident was reported to the Los Angeles County Fire Department at about 2 p.m. at the Speedway at 500 Speedway Drive, a fire dispatcher said.

They were reported in critical condition.

The two men are believed to be in their 50s, Irwindale Police Sgt. Rudy Gatto said. A paramedic team assigned to the speedway was performing CPR on them when police arrived.

"It appears to be accidental and we've isolated it to a race transport trailer," Gatto said.

The incident occurred during time trials and before the speedway was open to the public, he said.

The exact cause of the shock was under investigation, Gatto said.
