The gubernatorial campaign of former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, tired of simply buying up radio and television airtime, has announced its latest advertising assault: A full-color, glossy "magazine."

The mailer is being sent to 500,000 Republicans across the state deemed likely to vote in the upcoming June primary.

So you won't be able to find it in newsstand's at the checkout line like you might browse a copy of "O: The Oprah Magazine."

But it "looks just like Newsweek," according to USC political analyst Sherry Bebitch Jeffe in a comment to the Oakland Tribune.

You will be able to check it out at your local library branch, however, as the campaign is sending 1,400 copies to public libraries.

Needless to say, a Jerry Brown campaign spokesperson was dismissive.

"I would call it one of the nicest California photo albums ever," Brown's spokesman Sterling Clifford zinged.

Jackson West wonders if this could be the new print media business model they seem so desperate for.
