Ex-CIA Chiefs Ask Obama to Halt CIA Probe

Seven former heads of the CIA asked President Obama Friday to stop the planned criminal probe of the CIA's interrogations of terror suspects during former President Bush's administration.

The seven directors, including George Tenet and Porter Goss, made their formal request in a letter sent Friday to the White House. The letter requested that Obama overturn Attorney General Eric Holder's decision to appoint a counsel to investigate possible violations during CIA terror interrogations.

"If criminal investigations closed by career prosecutors during one administration can so easily be reopened at the direction of political appointees in the next, declinations of prosecution will be rendered meaningless," the directors wrote.

The White House could not be reached for comment.
