Poizner Levels Porn Peddler Accusation at Whitman

Whitman campaign mocks claims

Less than a month from the June primary, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner has come up with the latest attack on former eBay CEO and Republican gubernatorial nomination hopeful Meg Whitman -- accusing Whitman of porn peddling.

During her tenure at eBay, Whitman presided over the move of all pornography and erotic toys to an "adult" section at eBay. Ironically, similar to what online classifieds site Craigslist -- a business Whitman wanted to acquire -- did in response to criticisms that it served as a market for sex work.

In both eBay and Craigslist's cases, the move was intended to help clean up other sections of the site -- while simultaneously keeping a tidy profit center.

Whitman's campaign responded with the oft-repeated accusation that Poizner is a crypto-Democrat stalking horse: "The only pornography in this race is the obscene act of watching a liberal like Steve Poizner try to pretend he's a conservative."

The latest accusation follow attacks on her ties to Goldman Sachs, former support of Sen. Barbara Boxer and statements about immigration that left the Whitman campaign on the defensive.

Jackson West wonders why Silicon Valley hates Porn Valley so much.
