Pres. Obama's Speech Draws Record Tweets

The DNC as a whole recorded over 9 million tweets.

President Barack Obama took the stage Thursday for the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC.

With Obama embracing social media the way he has with Twitter town halls, and Google Plus hangouts (not to mention his Reddit appearance last week) it's not a huge surprise that Twitter exploded while he spoke.

Twitter recorded a peak of 52,757 tweets per minute, reports Mashable, which is a new record high for politics-related tweets.

The number of tweets over all about the DNC reached over 9 million, which was more than double what the RNC had last week.

The most popular quote from the President was "I'm no longer juts a candidate, I'm the president." with 43,646 retweets.
