Marco Rubio will essentially be “releasing” his Ohio voters to John Kasich to stop Republican front-runner Donald Trump from winning the party’s nomination, according to a senior adviser for the campaign who spoke to NBC News.
But the adviser said if Rubio wins Florida and Kasich wins Ohio, “it’ll be a whole new day,” and prevent Trump from taking two of the biggest delegate pots next Tuesday. It would also help lead to a brokered convention, which both Rubio and Kasich have called their only path to the nomination.
Rubio has been fending off threats from both Kasich and Trump in his home state of Florida, which awards all its delegates to the winner.
