McNerney Retains Congressional Seat

11th District straddles 4 counties

Democrat Jerry McNerney retained his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives Tuesday, easily fending off a challenge from Republican candidate Dean Andal.

Early today, with 97 percent of precincts reporting, McNerney had 55 percent of the vote compared to Andal's 45 percent.

Andal, a former assemblyman and past member of the state Board of Equalization, has said that tightening national security and improving ethics would be among his top priorities if elected.

McNerney, whose 11th District straddles four counties and includes the cities of Danville, Pleasanton and Morgan Hill, ousted longtime Congressman Republican Richard Pombo in 2006, garnering 54 percent of the vote.

The McNerney campaign held an election night party Tuesday in Dublin.
