U.S.' Josh Prenot, Kevin Cordes Safely Into 200m Breaststroke Semifinals

Team USA’s Kevin Cordes and University of California at Berkeley swimmer Josh Prenot finished seventh and 10th, respectively, in the 200m breaststroke preliminary heats on Tuesday afternoon to advance to the 16-man nighttime semifinals.

Cordes raced to two minutes, 9.30 seconds to advance out of the heats. On Sunday, Cordes – a rookie at these Rio Olympics – finished just off the podium in fourth place in the 100m breaststroke with 59.22 seconds.

Prenot raced to a tenth place overall in the heats with his time of 2:09.91.

Hungary’s Daniel Gyurta, the 2012 Olympic champion in the event, finished in 17th place by 0.02 seconds.
