Watch Women's Water Polo: US Beats China 12-4

The team is attempting to become the first women’s water polo team in Olympic history to win back-to-back gold medals

The U.S. women’s water polo team, the reigning Olympic champions, beat China 12-4 thanks to four goals from Danville native and Stanford University star Maggie Steffens.

Thursday's win follows a decisive 11-4 win over Spain on Tuesday.

The team, which features Princeton goalie Ashleigh Johnson and a total of six athletes with Bay Area ties, is attempting to become the first women’s water polo team in Olympic history to win back-to-back gold medals.

If the matched against Spain and China were any indication, the team remains focused on that objective, as the U.S. got goals from 8 of their 11 position players, including six different players in the first half.
