Shaun Hill and Alex Smith are amazingly tight buddies considering that they're in a heated competition for the 49ers starting quarterback position. They golf and play basketball together. Hill was a groomsman in Smith's wedding. And for Mother's Day, they both let themselves be dragged out together by their ladies for a generous, huge manicure, hair style, and cosmetics buying spree for mothers at a San Jose women's shelter.
Smith and Hill were two of the many 49ers who with their wives and various lady friends came bearing Mother's Day gifts to CityTeam Ministries House of Grace, a San Jose nonprofit shelter for women and children. Vernon Davis was in on the gift-giving trip as well, as were Coach Singletary's wife Kim and daughter Jill.
The 49ers contingent showed up in a surprise visit to House of Grace with an enormous haul of high-end hairstyling, make-up, manicure and pedicure gear. Elizabeth Smith, Alex's new bride and a professional stylist herself, led the charge. Ms. Smith and a contingent of stylist went to work on the lucky moms.
"This is really important for me to come out here and do this because for me, mothers are so important. My mother means the world to me,” she said. “These women have had a little rough patch in their lives and they’ve had the opportunity to rebuild this relationship with their children. And to me, I think that a relationship between a mother and a child is very important. Mother’s Day is a celebration of a mother and a child, and this is a very good opportunity for them to spend some quality time together and for us to pamper them in honor of that.”
Please make an effort to remember Mom this weekend, people. The 49ers did.
