49ers to Play Chargers on One Day's Practice

Niners have little time to prepare for Chargers' league-leading defense.

The San Francisco 49ers' short-week cram session for Thursday night's game at San Diego has their heads spinning so fast that they can't even name the rooms in their Santa Clara practice facility.

"My mind is still in the ..." 49ers coach Mike Singletary told the San Francisco Chronicle, his mumbles trailing off as he pointed in the general direction of the 49ers' film room. "You know what? My mind is still looking at San Diego plays, and trying to get on track with that and different things that come up, but it's just that."

The 49ers players had Monday off after Sunday's win. They practice Tuesday. They fly to San Diego Wednesday. They play against San Diego at 5:20 p.m. PST Thursday.

That's one day of practice before facing the NFL's best defense and second -best offense.

If the 49er Faithful find the task too impossibly unfair or daunting, then take hope. The 49ers can lose Thursday night and still be in great shape to win the NFC West with a 7-9 record.
