Nick Bosa Looking Strong as ACL Recovery Appears on Track for 49ers

Things are starting to look up for the 49ers.

After getting off to a disastrous, injury-riddled start to the season, the 49ers are suddenly thinking about playoff possibilities heading into Monday night’s contest vs. the Buffalo Bills. The NFC West isn’t so scary now that the Cardinals have lost three in a row and the Seahawks just lost to the Giants.

Yes, the Giants.

The 49ers also appear to have some good news on the injury front, as video recently surfaced of All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa rehabbing the torn ACL in his left knee.

Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group recently addressed Bosa’s health in a 49ers fan mailbag.

“Nick is apparently recovering great from his knee reconstruction, after a Sept. 20 ACL tear,” Inman wrote. “He showed impressive leg strength in an Instagram video posted recently by his physical therapist, who did not respond to my message seeking more insight.”

Granted, we have evidence only of a nine-second cell phone video, but it’s great to see Bosa working out and putting weight on his left knee.

For now, 49ers fans can only imagine the impact he’d make for the squad heading down the stretch with looming matchups with mobile QBs Josh Allen, Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals and Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. Or, you can simply watch the Los Angeles Chargers with Bosa envy, as Nick’s brother, Joey, has racked up 7.5 sacks this season.

While Kerry Hyder Jr. has been a pleasant surprise to the 49ers’ defensive front with 7.5 sacks, no other pass-rusher on the team has recorded more than two. Still, the 49ers enter Monday’s matchup with the Bills toting the fourth-best pass defense (206.5 yards allowed per game) in the league.

Come Week 13 in 2021, 49ers fans sure hope Bosa is back atop the team leaderboard in sacks.
