‘A Dream Come True' For New 49ers Owner

Former Silicon Valley exec joins ownership

Former Facebook, YouTube, and Yahoo! executive Gideon Yu is now a part owner of the 49ers.  The announcement came Thursday along with word NFL owners approved a $200 million loan for a new stadium in Santa Clara.

Yu was the chief financial officer for Facebook and YouTube before joining the 49ers as the team’s Chief Strategy Officer last April. Yu was in that CFO post at YouTube during its sale to Google for $1.65 billion in 2006.

Tim Kawakami of the Bay Area News Group reported back in December, Yu is likely getting a one-percent stake in the team.  Kawakami also estimates that stake cost Yu about $9 million, and he says expect another part owner to be announced soon.

Team president Jed York congratulated Yu on Twitter Thursday night. Yu responded, calling it a “Dream Come True”.
