Brian Wilson's Return Still Unclear

Brian Wilson is eligible to come off the disabled list on Wednesday, after he was retroactively added to the DL earlier in the week.

But -- surprise, surprise! -- there's some bad news, in that it doesn't look like Wilson will be joining the active the roster until later than his first eligibility date.

"We haven't ruled it out, but that's going to be tough for him to be ready to go when his time is up," Bruce Bochy said, via MLB.com's Adam Berry. "We'll see where he's at tomorrow and then make a call."

This is primarily because Wilson threw for the first time Thursday since hitting the disabled list and though Bochy didn't comment on his precise status, it's pretty clear that he's still experiencing discomfort in his elbow at this point.

It's not all gut-punching information though: Sergio Romo looked good and felt healthy during a throwing session on Wednesday. After an "extended spring training game" on Friday, he'll potentially be ready to join the team by Sunday.

That's huge news for a depleted bullpen that desperately needs someone with "closer stuff," and Romo offers that, even if he's misused at times by the coaching staff.

In the meantime, expect Santiago Casilla to continue closing. Or work the seventh and eighth innings. Whatever.

"In that seventh-eighth inning, if I think he's the guy that needs to help us and get him out of a jam, then I'll use him there," Bochy said. "But it was pretty impressive what he did last night, coming in and locating the way he did and having the stuff that he did. That's encouraging to see."

Not as encouraging as seeing the bullpen get healthy. But, hey, on the bright side, at least these injuries are happening in late August rather than late September, right?

Right???
