USA's Casey Eichfeld Fails to Medal in Canoe Single Slalom

Team USA’s Casey Eichfeld fell short of his first Olympic medal in the men's canoe single slalom final on Tuesday.

In the semifinals on Tuesday afternoon, Eichfeld finished in 10th with a time of 1:41.23 seconds, which qualified him for the finals. There he posted a time of 1:39.69 and finished seventh. That was less than three seconds of a bronze medal.

At the 2012 London Games, Eichfeld came in 14th.

The event has been historically dominated by European competitors.

The last time a U.S. canoe athlete won a medal in C1 was at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
