Charles Barkley, never afraid to shy away from voicing his opinion, has some choice words for the Team USA's men's basketball team.
The Rio squad loaded with NBA All-Stars and All-NBA First Team selections finished group play undefeated at 5-0, but three of those victories were decided by 10 points or less, including two three-point nail biters.
Barkley, a member of the famous 1992 Dream Team that outscored opponents by an average of 44 points, told Sports360AZ.com that this rendition of Team USA, which includes Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors, is focusing too heavily on one-on-one basketball instead of orchestrating a team-driven offense.
"It's not a good team to put together," Barkley told Sports360AZ.com in an interview, which was later transcribed by For The Win. "I don’t think they did a good job because if you watch all those guys — they’re all good players, don’t get me wrong — they all need the ball."
With so many "ball-dominant" scorers on the roster needing the ball, Barkley said that the isolation-style tactic has led to a stagnant offense.
Barkley's suggestion moving forward is to stock the squad with unselfish players.
"They gotta have player that if they don't get a shot, they're not just gonna stand around and mope," he told Sports360AZ.com.
