SAN FRANCISCO — Neither of the managers in Friday night’s game stuck around long, but Bruce Bochy certainly enjoyed his ejection a bit more than Chip Hale did.
Bochy was sent off early, with his team trailing, but the Giants flipped a switch after their manager got run. They beat the Diamondbacks 6-2 to kick off the final series of the first half.
Jeff Samardzija’s final line was remarkable given how his evening started. Jean Segura blasted the game’s first pitch over the left field wall and Samardzija went on to give up two more hits and walk a batter in the first. He threw 31 pitches, but allowed just one more run. In the second, Samardzija gave up a single and hit Segura, but he kept the Diamondbacks off the board.
Patrick Corbin appeared hellbent on revenge in the bottom of the inning. He threw a slider that nearly hit Buster Posey and then whipped a fastball behind him. Home plate ump Quinn Wolcott warned both benches, and an incensed Bochy stormed out of the dugout. Bochy was ejected after a few seconds of arguing with Wolcott, who later tossed Hale for arguing balls and strikes.
Brandon Crawford got back at Corbin four pitches later. The lefty came inside with a fastball and Crawford blasted it into the arcade section, tying the game. The normally stoic shortstop tossed his bat aside and strutted a few steps before going into his home run trot.
The Giants tacked two runs on in the third after a two-out throwing error by third baseman Jake Lamb and Corbin walked a run home in the fifth.
After plunking Segura, Samardzija retired 14 of the next 15. Ron Wotus came out with the hook after a walk and single with one out in the seventh. Derek Law stranded both runners.

Sergio Romo struck out three in the eighth and Hunter Strickland steered it home with a little help from Denard Span.
Starting pitching report: Samardzija was charged with two earned on five hits in 6 1/3. He finished his first half as a Giants with a 3.91 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, throwing 117 1/3 innings.
Bullpen report: Romo looked like his old self. Maybe the bullpen will be fine?
At the plate: Crawford’s revenge tour went: two-run homer, RBI single, walk, double.
In the field: Playing way in on the grass, Ruben Tejada showed lighting-fast reflexes while snagging Michael Bourn’s shot to third in the fifth inning.
Attendance: The Giants announced a crowd of 41,576 human beings who did not know that the Diamondbacks bench coach is named Glenn Sherlock.
Up next: Jake Peavy makes his final start of the first half. He’ll face lefty Robbie Ray.
