Dalilah Muhammad Wins First U.S. Women's 400m Hurdles Gold Medal

Silver: Sara Petersen (Denmark)
Bronze: Ashley Spencer (United States)

Dalilah Muhammad became the first U.S. woman to win an Olympic 400m hurdles Thursday night, finishing in 53.13 seconds. 

Entering the night, five U.S. had five silver medalists in the event, but no gold medalists.

Fellow American Ashley Spencer earned the bronze medal in 53.72 seconds, a personal best.

Denmark’s Sara Petersen broke the national record to claim the silver medal. 

Earlier in the day, American Kerron Clement won the men’s 400m hurdles gold medal.
