Legality of Pay-Out Fantasy Football Questioned

Fantasy football sites like FanDuel and Draft King, which advertise that they pay real money to game winners, may get a closer look by Congress if New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone has anything to say about it, NBC News reports.

On Monday, Pallone requested that GOP leaders of the House Energy Commerce Committee hold a hearing to examine the legal status between fantasy leagues, professional sports and sports betting, given that Internet gambling is illegal in the United States.

The congressman asserts that the leagues operate in murky legal territory, suggesting it's hypocritical of professional sports leagues like the NFL, which did not return a request for comment, to oppose legalized betting but invest in pay-out fantasy sites.
