From Stanford to the U.S. Open

Saratoga Kid Storms Pebble Beach

It's been a whirlwind 24 hours for Saratoga-native Joseph Bramlett. "Just graduated yesterday. It's a busy week," he says after getting his diploma from Stanford on Sunday and then his clubs to Pebble Beach the very next day for the U.S. Open.

Bramlett qualified as an amateur at a Sectional in Sacramento last week and now makes his U.S. Open debut on the Pebble Beach Golf Links at the 2010 National Championship.

"It's a dream come true to get to play my first Open at Pebble," Bramlett says, adding, "I get to test my game against the best competitors on one of the toughest courses you'll see so I'm really excited."

Bramlett was a four-year letter winner in golf at Mountain View's St. Francis High School and battled through two separate wrist injuries during a successful career at Stanford. While a member of the Cardinal golf team, he got a chance to meet another former member of the Stanford golf team, Tiger Woods.

Now, he's not so much star struck amongst golf's luminaries, just more or less ready to pick something up from them. "These guys know how things work day in, day out... week in, week out," he says, adding, "I'm mainly just trying to figure out how this professional lifestyle works and what are the keys to succeeding out here, and I'm just going to try to learn as much as I can this week."
