Giants Closer May Miss Opening Day

News out of Glendale, Ariz., isn't good for the title-defending San Francisco Giants, or the big league saves leader.

A strained ribcage muscle may keep Brian Wilson off the mound and in the dugout for Opening Day and beyond, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Wilson will be reevaluated on Monday.

If he's out for anything close to an extended period, lefties Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez or righty Sergio Romo could fill in.

CSN's Mychael Urban reports that Wilson hurt his cage during an outing on Thursday, and that he's been shut down until reevaluation.

Monday is 10 days out from opening day against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As Urban puts it: "...the thought of Wilson actually missing a month or more should be enough to send shivers down spines from Scottsdale to China Basin."
