Giants Lose 4-2, Head Back to Philly

Series resumes Saturday for Game 6

Clinching a spot in the World Series will have to wait for the Giants as the NLCS against the Phillies heads back to Philadelphia for Game 6. Thursday night’s opportunity to clinch at home ended in a 4-2 loss.

A fielder’s choice groundout by Buster Posey in the first inning started the scoring as it brought home Andres Torres.

The Phillies responded in the top of the third inning with three runs. An Aubrey Huff error accounted for the first two Philadelphia runs before Placido Polanco’s RBI single scored Shane Victorino.

The Giants countered with a run in the fourth inning as the red hot Cody Ross doubled in Pat Burrell.

Jayson Werth added a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to bring the score to 4-2.

Tim Lincecum went seven innings giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits with seven strikeouts in 104 pitches.

Game 6 is Saturday in Philadelphia.
