Harry Potter Spell Cast on US Women's Water Polo Team

"Ferox femina fors aurum" stands for "fierce woman luck gold"

The U.S. women's water polo team is coming into Rio as the defending Olympic gold medalists, and may not need much help defending that title.

That doesn't mean they aren't going to accept a little magic though. Team USA's Kaleigh Gilchrist's cousin, Brianna Pilkinton of Ravenclaw, recently went to Harry Potter World and cast a spell on the women's team to help them win gold.

The name of the spell is "Ferox femina fors aurum" or "fierce woman luck gold." The certificate reads "This spell, when the caster flourishes their wand in this pattern (Olympic rings) and repeats the incantation correctly will cause the subject to WIN GOLD at the 2016 Rio Olympics!"

Only a muggle wouldn't try that before a game.   The women aren't the only athletes in Rio hoping to draw inspiration from Hogwarts. Diver Kassidy Cook is also a big fan of the books, and said "expelliarmus", the Disarming Charm, is her favorite spell.
