The Games have officially begun!
What a night! The anticipation was building all day for the Opening Ceremony at the 2014 Sochi Games.
Before the ceremony, you could feel the excitement. Spectators, volunteers, and athletes filed into Fisht Stadium, which can seat 40,000 people.
They didn’t know what to expect. The Russians had kept it very tight-lipped.
Once the ceremony began, there was amazement and wonder. Let’s just say it got colder, some moments got higher, and some performances left people mesmerized.
Afterwards, we caught-up with the athletes, who said it was one of the most memorable moments of their lives.
Speedskater Eddie Alvarez described the atmosphere as "absolutely amazing."
“I just can’t believe we’re here," Carmel Freeskier Brita Sigourney said. "It’s finally settling in.”
Monterey Bobsledder Nick Cunningham called it an “unbelievable show.”
An estimated two billion people from around the world watched the event on television.
