Santa Clara Police Make 2 Arrests Outside First Levi's Stadium Sporting Event

Two people were arrested outside of Levi’s Stadium on Saturday, the day of the first sporting event at the new home of the San Francisco 49ers, Santa Clara police said Monday.

One person was arrested outside the venue for public intoxication, Santa Clara police Lt. Kurt Clarke said. Another person was arrested on an outstanding warrant after being questioned about the sale of suspected unlicensed merchandise.

Clarke refused to disclose how many officers were on duty for Saturday’s Major League Soccer matchup between the San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders FC.

No arrests were made inside the stadium, Clarke said. That milestone was reached before the stadium opened: A 51-year-old Watsonville man was detained for trespassing on July 15 and arrested on an outstanding warrant.

On future game days, Clarke said, the department would be sending even more officers to step up parking enforcement in the vicinity of the stadium.
