Playoff Race Heats Up as Giants Face Dodgers

This Labor Day holiday, the San Francisco Giants are working for the weekend. They're working a three-game series at Dodger Stadium, with a chance to take the NL West lead.

Friday night's game will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. PDT on NBC Bay Area, with Barry Zito getting the start for the Giants. MLB.com notes that Zito is traditionally Mr. September, with a 25-14 career win-loss record in September games.

San Francisco has made up serious ground in the playoff race this week, with the first-place San Diego Padres losing their seventh straight on Wednesday. That leaves your Giants just two games back in the division, with a month of baseball yet to go.

With a sweep, the Giants could take the NL West lead. This is meaningful baseball in September, people.

L.A.'s playoff hopes are on life support, but the mathematical possibility is still  there. The Dodgers are nine games out of first place and eight games back in the wild card race.

Game two is Saturday at 7 p.m. PDT, and Game three is Sunday at 5 p.m. PDT.
