Randy Hanson Back on the Job

And you thought it was weird when they re-hired Art Shell.

In a move that makes less sense than the third Matrix movie, the Oakland Raiders have re-hired allegedly-punched assistant coach Randy Hanson. The San Jose Mercury News first reported  that Hanson was clandestinely brought back to work for the Raiders and started Wednesday.

Raiders coach Tom Cable sounded as surprised by the news as anyone. "I do not know anything about that," Cable told the Contra Costa Times." I really don’t know a lot about that other than that I was told he was back.’’

Hanson will reportedly work in te team's scouting department, where he will have little, if any, interaction with Cable.

More importantly for the Raiders franchise, it keeps Hanson happily employed and not suing the team. Hanson had retained employment law super-lawyer John McGuinn for possible civil damages.

It does not seem to bode well for Tom Cable's future that an assistant he hates so much was brought back into the building. Better bolt down the chairs and the cabinets.

Joe Kukura is a freelance writer who wishes he could have been a fly on the wall in Tom Cable's office Wednesday.
