San Jose Sharks House Calls

Sharks season tickets delivered by hand

If you see any of the San Jose Sharks in your neighborhood brace yourself for a Publisher’s Clearing House moment. In what’s become something of an annual tradition, Sharks players like Joe Thornton and Devin Setoguchi are making house calls to hand deliver season tickets to select fans.

“Really we don’t get to see the fans face-to-face too often, so it’s nice going here, and meeting some fans to give them their season tickets for the year,” says Thornton adding, “I know they’re excited, so it makes both of our days.”

Some of these families have had Sharks season tickets since the early ‘90s. “A lot of people say they’ve been season ticket holders since the cow palace,” says Setoguchi. “That’s even before -- or might be around the day I was born -- so that’s pretty amazing to have all the fans who’ve been around here for awhile, and for us to be here to give it to them. I know they appreciate it and we appreciate them supporting us,” he added.

The first ticket in the book is for Friday, September 18 when the Sharks open the preseason at home against the Vancouver Canucks after what’s been a long off-season.

“I think for 29 teams it’s been a difficult off-season, not just us,” says Thornton. “Expectations were high, but really only one team in the NHL had a good off-season and for the rest of us it was a crappy off-season, so we’re all looking forward to starting the next season."
