Seattle Seahawks' Richard Sherman Welcomes Baby Boy

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman announced on Twitter that he and his girlfriend welcomed their son on Thursday.

The new father tweeted about the coincidence of the baby’s birthday and his jersey number, #25.

Some questioned whether Sherman would play in last Sunday's Super Bowl because of the impending birth of his son. When asked what he would do if his girlfriend went into labor during the game, Sherman said his son "was going to do his father a favor," and wait to be born until after the game.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said during a joint press conference with New England coach Bill Belichick three days before the game that it would be Sherman who would be deciding if he was going to play, and if he was "faced with that decision, we'll support him."

Carroll also added, "I can't wait to see little Petey."

Sherman's girlfriend also told NBC affiliate King 5 ahead of the Seahawks' match against the Patriots that she didn't want to tell the cornerback if she went into labor while she was in Arizona watching him play in the Super Bowl last Sunday, though he told her that she had “better call" if their son decided to make the Super Bowl the day of his birth.

"If you see Richard heading for the locker room right after it hits zero in the fourth quarter, don't be surprised," Ashley Moss told the station.

The Patriots won the Super Bowl, 28-24.
