Sharks Ink Demers

After a solid rookie season, the San Jose Sharks announced the 2-year contract extension of defenseman Jason Demers this week.

Demers racked up 4 goals and 21 points last season in only 51 games. That gets him a No. 4 ranking among Sharks defense. The 2008 seventh round pick also totaled 17 points in 21 games for the Sharks top minor league affiliate.

This was a key signing for the Sharks blue line after the loss of captain Rob Blake to retirement, and just missing out on free agent Niklas Hjalmarsson, who re-signed with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Barring any last minute low profile signings, the Sharks roster looks to be pretty set. They will open the 2010-2011 season Oct. 8 in Stockholm, Sweden against the Columbus Bluejackets.
